RFE/RL (Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty) is an independent, international news and broadcast organization to Eastern and Southeastern Europe, Russia, the Caucasus, the Middle East to include Iran and Iraq Central and Southwest Asia.
Across our broadcast region, more than 30 million people enjoy and rely on RFE/RL programming. Through broadcasts in 28 languages, RFE/RL provides news, information and responsible discussion of domestic and international issues to countries where free and independent media are not permitted or not yet fully established.
RFE/RL is a nonprofit organization funded by the U.S. Congress. Corporate headquarters are in Washington D.C., but programming originates from our Prague operational headquarters as well as from bureaus.
Reporting to Radio Farda Editorial Director, the Correspondent' s major responsibility is to cover the Washington politics, US Government, and relevant NGOs and institutions events and actions. A major focus is US foreign policy. The Correspondent writes and adapts major news stories and features; evaluates source material & develops original sources; edits news and features as assigned, and reports live. His/her work requires minimal editing and he/she performs the duties of the job with minimal supervision. Writing and editing skills are comprehensive and held up as the standard for the department.
Qualifications:
Education:Education: University degree in journalism or related field.
Experience:Minimum of six years news journalism experience required, including work in a fast paced organization with tight deadlines.
Special Skills:Knowledge of and experience reporting on the activities of the US government including Congress, the White House and the US Department of State.
The ideal candidate will have professional contacts in think-tank and policy development organizations related to US government operations.
Broad and detailed knowledge of political, economic, and social situations in several of the broadcast areas as well as international affairs (knowledge may be acquired through studies, research, writing, travel, or other relevant experience or exposure).
Ability to write for multiple media.
Ability to work effectively with people from widely different cultural backgrounds.
Thorough knowledge of the news needs in the broadcast areas and understanding of market and target audiences
Demonstrated strong commitment to journalistic objectivity and integrity.
Ability to operate audio equipment and digital audio work stations effectively to create broadcast-ready reports.
Languages:Ability to read, comprehend, and write native-level Persian and professional-level English.
