Amid a heavy police presence, up to 20,000 people came out onto the streets of Moscow on May 6 to protest against the inauguration of Vladimir Putin for a third term as president. The mostly peaceful protests, however, were subsequently marred by clashes with police, which resulted in hundreds of arrests.
