My wife and I lived in Saudi Arabia for more than six years. We are both Christian. Whenever my wife left our housing compound she wore her head scarf and abaya without question. My wife is Filipina, and if she dared to venture off of the compound without the scarf and abaya she surely would have gotten arrested.

We now live in Prague and my wife's abaya still hangs in her closet to remind her about the differences between an oppressive society and a free society.
