RFE/RL's Tatar-Bashkir Service

The Tatar-Bashkir Service was established in 1953 as part of Radio Liberty, broadcasting to the Soviet Union. RFE/RL’s Tatar-Bashkir broadcasts are especially popular among politicians, intellectuals, and decision-makers and provide listeners with objective news and information not available from Russian media. Radio Azatliq is the only major international broadcaster in the Tatar and Bashkir languages. For decades, the service also has produced broadcasts in the Crimean Tatar language.
