U.S. Grants Asylum Under 'The Bring Them Home Alive' Law

Any alien, who is a national of Iraq or a nation of the greater Middle East region and personally delivers into the custody of the United States government a living American Persian Gulf War prisoner of war (POW) or soldier that is missing in action (MIA) shall be granted refugee status in the United States. The asylum status is also granted to the parent, spouse, or child of the alien.
The U.S. currently has several MIA soldiers in Iraq (six as of 15 April 2003), which includes one from the 1991 Gulf War.
This program of the U.S. government providing refugee asylum in the United States expands an earlier refugee asylum program "The Bring Them Home Alive Act" (Public Law 106-484; 114 Stat. 2195; 8 U.S.C. 1157 note) granting asylum in the U.S. to nationals of Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, China, or any of the independent states of the former Soviet Union who personally deliver into the custody of the United States government a living American Vietnam POW/MIA; and any national of North Korea, China, or any of the independent states of the former Soviet Union who delivers into the custody of the United States a living American Korean War POW/MIA.
