Born: 17 January 1937 in the village of Furmanovo, in the West Kazakhstan Oblast

Single

1957 -- completes studies at Urals Pushkin Pedagogical Institute

1957-61 -- works as teacher, serves in the armed forces, employed in oblast's library department

1961-64 -- deputy secretary, secretary of Urals Oblast Komsomol committee of Kazakhstan

1964-66 -- student at Almaty Higher Party School

1966-73 -- instructor, head of political-culture within the Ural Oblast party committee

1973-76 -- graduate student, Academy of Social Sciences of the central committee of the Communist Party

1976-86 -- chairman of lecturing group of the party oblast committee

1988-91 -- rector at party oblast committee's university of Marxism-Leninism

1991-93 -- head of Ural Oblast party council

1993-94 -- head of administration for West Kazakhstan Oblast

1994-95 -- deputy in Supreme Soviet

1995-96 -- secretary of the Assembly of Smaller (Minority) Peoples of West Kazakhstan Province

1996-99 -- deputy in Senate

22 October 1999 -- announces candidacy for the presidency

10 January 1999 -- receives 55,708 votes (0.76 percent) in presidential election, earning a fourth-place finish
