Results of Mazhlis elections on 10 October 1999

By party lists, Otan received four out of 10 seats in the Mazhilis; Communists, Civic, and Agrarians got two each. Of 20 deputies elected in single-mandate districts, four are Otan, seven are from Civic, three are from trade unions, and six were independent. Through to the second round of voting are Otan with 19 candidates, trade unions with 15, Civic Party with seven, three from the Republican People's Party, and one from both the Communist and Azamat parties.

Of 8,411,757 eligible voters, 5,262,489 cast ballots, or 62.5 percent.

There were 549 candidates running for the 67 seats in single-mandate districts and 65 candidates from nine parties competing for 10 seats by party list.

Mazhilis elections on 9 December 1995:

Pro-government parties:
Party for National Unity: 38 candidates
Democratic Party: 22 candidates
Cooperation Party:15 candidates
National Revival Party: 5 candidates

Opposition parties:
Communists: 9 candidates
People's Congress Party: 8 candidates
All other parties are boycotting the elections

Results of Supreme Soviet elections on 7 March 1994:

756 candidates (362 independent, 331 from public associations, 64 nominated by president)

29 parties and social organizations took part

According to the Central Election Commission as cited by Almaty Radio on 15 March 1999, "All together, 123 representatives from 24 countries came to Kazakhstan as observers and have witnessed the historic events in the republic. The observers were satisfied with the overall process and results of the elections."

Official results from 7 March 1994 election:

176 deputies: 42 from state lists, 74 from public associations, 59 self-nominated. City of Almaty - 15, Akmola - 9, Aktyubinsk - 8, Almaty region - 9, Atyrau - 6, East Kazakhstan - 10, Zhambyl - 10, Zhezkozgen - 6, Western Kazakhstan - 7, Karaganda - 13, Kzyl Orda - 6, Kokchetau - 7, Kostena - 11, Mangistau - 4, Pavlodar - 8, North Kazakhstan - 7, Semipalatinsk - 9, Taldy Kurgan - 8, South Kazakhstan - 15.

The Central Election Commission says 75 percent of the electorate took part in the election. ITAR-TASS reported on 10 March 1994 that the Kazakh Embassy in Moscow released a statement saying 75 percent of voters cast ballots and only 23 seats went to opposition parties, the rest went to Nazarbaev's supporters

Results of presidential elections on 10 January 1999:

Nursultan Nazarbayev: 81.7 percent
Serikbolsyn Abdildin: 12.1 percent
Gani Kasymov: 4.7 percent
Engels Gabbasov: 1.5 percent

Referendums:

29 April 1995: On extending the president's term in office until 2000. 91.3
percent of voters cast ballots, 95.4 percent voted for the term extension

30 August 1995: On approving a new constitution.
90 percent of eligible voters cast ballots, 89 percent approved of the changes.
