Dr. Alfred Moisiu is the fourth person to be elected president of the Republic of Albania since the fall of communism in 1992. He previously served in the Albanian Defense Ministry, first as defense minister and later as an adviser to the defense minister and deputy defense minister.
During his career, President Moisiu held several assignments at the engineering directory of the Albanian Defense Ministry. He has also served as a platoon commander at the Joint Officers School and as an instructor at the military academy in Tirana. He is a graduate of the Moscow Military Engineering Academy. As a student, he actively participated in the National Liberation War of Albanian people during World War II.
President Moisu has written many articles and studies on military topics and on problems of defense and security. As president of the Albanian Atlantic Association, Moisu has hosted and organized several international conferences on peace and security in the Balkans. He is expected to be elected vice president of the Atlantic Treaty Association in 2002.
