Antonio Borges De Carvalho is secretary-general of The Atlantic Treaty Association. He is also vice president of the Portuguese Atlantic Commission. De Carvalho has had an extensive career in public service as well as in the private sector. As a former member of parliament, he served as chairman of the Constitutional and Foreign Affairs Committee and as vice chairman of the Defense Committee. He is also a founding member of the Portuguese section of the European Movement. De Carvalho served as a lieutenant in the Portuguese Army from 1963-67 and was awarded the African Campaigns Medal for Merit in a war zone. He is novelist and published three novels in the last decade. De Carvalho is also a political analyst and writes regularly in the media.
