12 June 1969 -- Born in Namangan, Uzbekistan
1987-89 -- Serves in the army in Afghanistan
1989 -- Leaves army, returns to Uzbekistan and reportedly helps found Islamic organization "Tovba" (Repentance), which engages in the study of Islam and propagation of Islamic literature
1991 -- Meets leadership of Islamic Renaissance Party of Tajikistan
1992-93 -- Trains in Tajik opposition camps in Afghanistan
1993-96 -- Returns to Tajikistan, fights in Tajik opposition, sets up a camp in the Yasman Gorge of Jirgatal district, near the village of Hoit
1996 -- Travels to Saudi Arabia for religious study
1997-- Is linked to the murder of four law enforcement officials in Namangan
1999 -- Is reportedly among large group of Uzbeks in the area of Tavil-Dara village, Tajikistan; in August, a large group of armed ethnic Uzbeks (along with others) descends into southern Kyrgyzstan, takes hostages, battles Kyrgyz forces, and announces they are the Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan, demand clear passage through Kyrgyz territory to Uzbekistan, where they say their goal is to overthrow the Karimov government
November 2000 -- Uzbekistan's Supreme Court tries Namangani in absentia, sentences him to death
November 2001 -- Is reportedly killed during U.S. attacks near Taloqan in northern Afghanistan
