Introduction:
As the world commemorates the 60th anniversary of the end of World War II in Europe, RFE/RL takes a look at that conflict's enduring legacies in its broadcast areas. From unresolved territorial claims to festering ethnic, political, ideological, and economic disputes, the war continues to loom large from Central Europe to the Russian Far East. Its impact continues to be felt on nearly a daily basis from the geopolitical level to the level of individuals and families.

This series by no means exhausts the list of such topics, but it serves as a reminder of an era that changed the world forever and that continues to do so today.
