Alina Kabaeva has launched a new website. I guess the website is intended to give her a little bit more respectability after the raft of tabloid exposure (and her own exposure in the racy Duma calendar). Putin has denied the affair, and Russia's yellow press seems to have lost some of its enthusiasm for reporting on it.

Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov has long been rumored to boast a stable of fast cars (he reportedly prefers Porsche Cayennes) and women (models).

But a new video making the rounds in Russia appears to shed some light on the young strongman's life in the fast lane -- or lanes, in this case. The homemade video purportedly shows vehicles hugging the side of the road as Kadyrov's motorcade approaches. They won't have to wait long, but they best not blink if they hope to catch a glimpse of their infamous leader.

About This Blog

Written by RFE/RL editors and correspondents, Transmission serves up news, comment, and the odd silly dictator story. While our primary concern is with foreign policy, Transmission is also a place for the ideas -- some serious, some irreverent -- that bubble up from our bureaus. The name recognizes RFE/RL's role as a surrogate broadcaster to places without free media. You can write us at transmission+rferl.org
