'Death To Palestine, Wait, I Mean Israel'

January 06, 2009

This video doing the rounds is from an unnamed city in Iran on Quds Day, when the government traditionally organizes anti-Israeli demonstrations. (Ayatollah Khomeini designated the last Friday of the month of Ramadan as Quds Day.)

It's par for the course at first, with the chant leader shouting "Death to Israel," and the others repeating it after him. But then there's a bit of confusion, when he shouts "Death To Palestine," and everyone repeats it once again.

The chant leader quickly corrects himself and throws in a "Death to the U.S." for good measure.

About This Blog
Written by RFE/RL editors and correspondents, Transmission serves up news, comment, and the odd silly dictator story. While our primary concern is with foreign policy, Transmission is also a place for the ideas -- some serious, some irreverent -- that bubble up from our bureaus. The name recognizes RFE/RL's role as a surrogate broadcaster to places without free media. You can write us at transmission+rferl.org
