OK, Who Brought The Israeli Oranges Into Iran?

April 24, 2009
Iran’s Ilna and Mehr news agencies are reporting that in recent days oranges imported from Israel have been distributed and sold in several Iranian cities including in Tehran and Karaj.

The semi-official Mehr news agency reports that the “Israeli“ oranges have stickers with the sign “jaffa sweetie Israel-po." According to Mehr’s report the oranges produced by “the Zionist regime” were distributed in boxes from China (photos here).

Iran has imposed investment and trade sanctions on Israel and Ahmadinejad frequently attacks Israel and its right to exist.

In an interview with Mehr, the head of the fruit and vegetable distribution organization in Tehran has called the incident worrying and said the "violators" should be dealt with.

He added that his organization will follow the issue closely and will not allow those who want to make a profit ignore “Tehran’s citizens' religious and revolutionary learning.”

What would make the oranges story that bit juicier is the possibility that Ahmadinejad is responsible. A pro-reform news website “salaamnews” is reporting that the “Israeli” oranges were distributed for free in Islamshahr during a visit by President Mahmud Ahmadinejad.

In the past, Ahmadinejad has been accused of distributing free potatoes to gain people’s vote ahead of the June presidential election.

How come nobody talks about the economic embargo imposed on Iran by US under Jewish lobby pressure? That happened way before Iran banned anyting from Israel. Ahmadinejad is just retaliating, even though he's not very diplomatic about it. US has a long way to go fixing their own mistakes in the Middle East. We've seen a lot of reconciliatory talk from Obama, but no concrete steps so far.

Ahmadinejad is a fool. He should spend more time sorting out the problems in Iran and less time blaming the US and Israel. Trying to bribe voters with oranges is probably one of his better deeds.

I'm sure Iranians don't mind. Iran is a georgous country, unfortunately the country's leaders are a bunch of idiots.

It is nature that makes these oranges, and the Iranians should be ashamed to use a fruit to stir their hatred of Israel.

Dear Sickened, and why are you not as sickened by how many people have been "disappeared" be Iran in the same time?? Such hypocrisy. Blinders. That's what happened to you. You would rather be bending over for the mullahs and the Taliban paying a special "People of the Book" tax of surrender.
