KHABAROVSK -- An official responsible for state property in the Russian Far East city of Khabarovsk has been killed, RFE/RL's Russian service reports.

Inna Makanova, 50, was apparently attacked and suffered a serious head wound.

Her neighbors found her near her apartment this morning. She reportedly died before the ambulance arrived.

RFE/RL's local correspondent reports that investigators have not ruled out the possibility of the attack being connected to her work.

Makanova was responsible for the distribution and leasing of federal property in the city.
