Iraqi FM Urges Countries Not To Pull Out Troops

Copenhagen, 24 March 2004 (RFE/RL) -- Iraqi Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari today urged coalition forces not to withdraw troops from Iraq.

Zebari said multinational forces are needed to combat "extremists and terrorists" who want to derail democratic progress in Iraq.

Zebari's comments in Copenhagen come after leaders of several countries have suggested they might pull their troops from Iraq, or have expressed doubts about the U.S.-led coalition.

Zebari is in Copenhagen to attend a parliamentary hearing about Denmark's participation in the Iraq war. Denmark has 410 troops in southern Iraq.

RFE/RL has been declared an "undesirable organization" by the Russian government.
