U.S. Reportedly Bombs Wedding Party In Iraq

19 May 2004 -- The Associated Press news agency and the Al-Arabiyah television station are both reporting that a U.S. bombardment of a wedding celebration in western Iraq has killed at least 20 people.

AP quotes the deputy police chief in the town of Ramadi, Ziyad al-Jbouri, as saying the U.S. bombardment occurred overnight at about 2:45 a.m. local time in a remote desert area near the Syrian border.

An AP television report showed videotape of local Iraqis saying wedding guests were celebrating in the "traditional" style by firing guns into the air when the attack happened.

The U.S. military said they could not immediately confirm the report, but were investigating.
