Opposition Supporters Storm Abkhaz Government Building

12 November 2004 -- Media reports say dozens of opposition activists in Georgia's separatist republic of Abkhazia today forced their way into the government headquarters.

Prime Minister Nodar Khashba had reportedly left the building earlier.

The demonstrators are protesting against a decision by Abkhazia's outgoing administration to order a revote early next month in place of the disputed 3 October presidential election.

The Central Election Commission had declared opposition candidate Sergei Bagapsh the winner of the vote. But government candidate and former Prime Minister Raul Khadjimba had appealed against the decision, claiming the vote was fraudulent.
