Suspected Militants Killed In Ingushetia

8 January 2005 -- Russia's security service says four suspected militants were killed today in a shootout in the southern republic of Ingushetia.

More than 100 police and security agents backed by armored personnel carriers surrounded a house in the capital, Nazran, where the men had holed up.

The Interior Ministry says there were no reported casualties among law enforcement officers or civilians in the shootout.

Sergei Koryakov, the head of the Ingush branch of the Federal Security Service, says the men were believed to have been involved in a series of attacks on Ingush police installations last June in which about 90 people were killed.
