Iran Marks Islamic Revolution Anniversary

10 February 2005 -- Iran is marking today the anniversary of the 1979 Islamic revolution amid mounting international pressure over its nuclear programs.

State media urged people to come out into the streets today and "respond to U.S. threats".

The United States accuses Iran of secretly developing nuclear weapons and has not ruled out the use of military power. Three European powers -- Great Britain, France, and Germany -- prefer talks, trying convince Iran to abandon its controversial nuclear programs.

Iran denies the U.S. accusations. President Mohammad Khatami said yesterday that Iran could reverse commitments made on its nuclear program, saying the country was facing "psychological warfare."
