Ukrainian President Travels To France

22 June 2005 (RFE/RL) -- Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko has left for a one-day state visit to France.

Yushchenko is scheduled to meet with French President Jacques Chirac in Paris on 22 June.

On the eve of the visit to France, Yushchenko told French reporters that the main aim of the visit is to boost ties between the two countries.

He also says that the present constitutional crisis in the European Union won't impede Ukraine's efforts to eventually join the bloc.

Yushchenko is accompanied by National Security and Defense Council Secretary Petro Poroshenko for the visit.
