British Police Arrest Four Terror Suspects

27 July 2005 (RFE/RL) -- British police say they have arrested four men in the English city of Birmingham in connection with the failed bomb attacks in London on 21 July.

Police declined to say whether any of the men were suspected bombers. They said a suspicious package was found at the scene and that a stun gun was used in the raid.

The arrests follow a massive manhunt for suspects in the attempted bombings. Would-be suicide bombers attempted to blow up three underground stations and a double-decker bus, but the bombs failed to fully detonate. The attackers then fled.

The attempted attacks came just two weeks after suicide bombers killed more than 50 people in four separate attacks that also targeted underground stations and a bus.
