Russia's Volga Car To Be Phased Out

(RFE/RL) 7 December 2005 -- The maker of Russia's Volga car says the vehicle is going out of production.

Sergei Lugovoi, a spokesman for the Gorky Automobile Factory, says Volgas will still be produced this year and next year, but that the factory will drop the Volga from its production line after that.

Just over 50,000 Volgas were sold last year, with prices starting at around $7,000.

Volgas first appeared in the 1950s.
