One Killed In Blast Near Russian Nuclear Plant


The Sosnovy Bor nuclear power plant (file photo) (ITAR-TASS) 16 December 2005 -- One person is dead after an explosion ripped through a smelting facility in the vicinity of a nuclear power plant in Russia's northwest Leningrad region.


One person injured in yesterday's blast near the nuclear power station in the town of Sosnovyi Bor died in hospital today. Another two remain in serious condition.


Emergency officials say the explosion posed no threat to the reactors and did not affect the power station's operation.
