Kyrgyz President Appoints New Military Chief


BISHKEK, 1 February 2006 (RFE/RL) -- Kyrgyz President Kurmanbek Bakiev has appointed a new chief of the general staff of Kyrgyzstan's armed forces.

Kyrgyz Defense Minister Ismail Isakov told RFE/RL's Kyrgyz Service today that the new head of the military, Colonel Zamir Myrzabekovich Moldoshev, will also serve as first deputy defense minister.

Moldoshev previously led the Defense Ministry's organization and mobilization department.
