Police General, Two Guards Killed In Northern Iraq


(RFE/RL) 19 February 2006 -- A police general and two of his guards were killed in a roadside bombing outside Iraq's northern city of Kirkuk today.


Reports said Hatim Khalaf al-Obaidi headed police operations in the city.


In Al-Fallujah, west of Baghdad, a roadside bomb injured two police officers.


Oil Ministry spokesman Assem Jihad said Iraq suffered a loss of more than $6 billion in 2005 from oil revenues due to sustained attacks by insurgents on its oil infrastructure.


He said insurgents carried out more than 180 attacks on the country's oil installations in 2005, killing 47 oil engineers and technicians and another 91 police and security guards.
