Russian Solider, Three Police Killed In Chechnya

(RFE/RL) March 21, 2006 -- Officials say a Russian soldier and three Chechen members of the pro-Russian police have been killed in Chechnya.

A local official speaking on condition of anonymity said the soldier was killed by a mine in Khankala, near Grozny.

A mine also killed two policemen last night when they were traveling by car in a suburb of Grozny. A third police officer was attacked while returning home in Samashki, in western Chechnya.

A soldier was injured while defusing an explosive device in the western region of Achkoi-Martan and five Russian troops were also injured when their positions came repeatedly under fire.

The Russian Defense Ministry was not available to confirm the incidents, which were not reported by Russian news agencies.
