Suspected Georgian Crime Boss Arrested

(RFE/RL) May 9, 2006 -- Police in Dubai have arrested a Georgian-born suspected crime boss wanted in Spain.

Zahar Knyazevich Kalashov is believed to have directed a criminal network that allegedly laundered money from criminal activities in the former Soviet Union by investing in real estate, luxury cars, and other assets in Spain.

A year ago, Spanish police arrested 20 suspected Russian and Georgian gang members.
