Bishkek Demonstration Ends Peacefully


Demonstrators in Bishkek today (RFE/RL) May 27, 2006 -- A rally in the Kyrgyz capital Bishkek ended peacefully today with protest organizers adopting a resolution that calls on the government to speed up constitutional reforms.


The 10-point resolution includes demands for economic reforms and stronger action against corruption and criminality.


Supporters of the For Reform opposition movement and several nongovernmental organizations took part in the rally.


Demonstration organizers promised similar protests in the future if the government does not meet their demands.
