Protests Continue in Ukraine Against U.S. Ship


Anti-American and anti-NATO protests in Simferopol on June 2 (RFE/RL) June 2, 2006 (RFE/RL) -- Pro-Russian organizations in Ukraine continue to protest against the arrival of the U.S. military on the Crimean Peninsula.


Pro-Russian activists have prevented some 100 U.S. engineers from entering facilities.


Several hundred protesters are participating in protests all over the peninsula.


The protests started on May 27 with the arrival of the cargo ship "USS Advantage" at the port of Feodosiya. The ship is to take part in joint training exercises between NATO and Ukraine next month.
