Kazakh Senate Approves Amnesty On Illegal Assets


The administrative center of the Kazakh capital, Astana (epa) June 23, 2006 -- The upper house of Kazakh parliament today approved a bill under which Kazakhs who gained assets illegally will be amnestied.


The government-backed bill must now be signed by President Nursultan Nazarbaev to become law.


Justice Minister Zagipa Balieva said the deadline to declare assets is December 30. The government hopes the measure will generate over $30 million for the budget.
