U.S. Officials In Iraq Condemn Sectarian Violence


Top U.S. military commander in Iraq General George Casey (file photo) (epa) July 20, 2006 -- The United States' two top officials in Iraq have condemned a surge of sectarian killings and urged Iraqis to unite against terrorists and death squads.


In a joint statement, U.S. Ambassador to Baghdad Zalmay Khalilzad, and General George Casey called on Iraqi political leaders to "take responsibility" and pursue reconciliation between Iraqi Shi'a, Sunni Arabs, and Kurds, not just in words, but in deeds as well.
