'Suicide Bomber' Carried Out Ankara Blast

A Turkish shopkeeper looks through the borken window of his shop in Ankara a day after the blast (epa) May 23, 2007 -- A Turkish official says a male suicide bomber carried out the attack that killed six people and injured 100 others in Turkey's capital on May 22.

Ankara Governor Kemal Onal said the type of attack was similar to those carried out by Kurdish rebels.

He said the suicide bomber had spent two years in prison for hanging illegal posters and resisting police.

Germany, the current European Union president, condemned what it called the "ruthless terror attack" and called for those behind the bombing to be brought to justice.
