Charges Against Uzbek Deutsche Welle Journalists Dropped

(RFE/RL) June 11, 2007 -- Uzbek prosecutors today said they have dropped criminal cases against three journalists who worked for Germany's Deutsche Welle radio.

The three were facing charges of tax evasion and working without accreditation.

A statement from prosecutors posted on a government website said "the criminal case against the [three] individuals was ended without a ruling on their guilt," though the statement added that "material gathered by investigators proved the guilt" of the three journalists.
