Four Greek Police Suspended For Beating Albanians

June 18, 2007 -- Greek police officials say they have suspended four police officers after a video surfaced showing two Albanian detainees being beaten up at an Athens police station.

The video, which was made a year ago but only recently became public, shows a police officer beating up the two detainees, and ordering them to slap each other.

Albania's government has denounced the incident as a "racist, derogatory, and unacceptable" act.

Human rights groups have documented several incidents of abuse by the Greek police, especially against immigrants and Roma.
