Kosovo PM Proposes Date For Independence

Agim Ceku (file) (ITAR-TASS) July 20, 2007 -- Kosovo Prime Minister Agim Ceku has proposed that the province's parliament unilaterally proclaim independence on November 28.

The date is marked as independence day in neighboring Albania, and is also celebrated by Kosovo's 90-percent Albanian majority.

Ceku said his idea has not been discussed with or approved by other Kosovo-Albanian officials or with the UN administration in Kosovo.

Ceku said he believed a Western bid to steer Kosovo's secession from Serbia through the United Nations had failed.
