Tajikistan To Celebrate Independence Day


(RFE/RL) September 8, 2007 (RFE/RL) -- Tajikistan is preparing to celebrate16 years of independence on September 9.


RFE/RL's Tajik Service reports that in the capital, Dushanbe, performances are scheduled featuring some of the country's most popular artists. There was civil war in Tajikistan from 1992 to 1997.


The country has struggled to recover from the conflict that left up to 100,000 people dead and ruined Tajikistan's infrastructure.
