U.S. Media Rights Group To Honor Russian Journalist

September 24, 2007 -- The Committee to Protect Journalists says it will honor four "courageous" journalists from Russia, Pakistan, China, and Mexico with 2007 International Press Freedom Awards in November.

The winners include Dmitry Muratov, editor-in-chief of Russia's "Novaya Gazeta."

Three of that newspaper's reporters have been killed since its founding in 1993, including Anna Politkovskaya, who gained international recognition for her independent coverage of Chechnya and the North Caucasus.
