Romanian Army Chief In Brussels For Talks With NATO Officials

Bucharest, April 23 (RFE/RL) - The chief of Romania's armed forces is scheduled to meet with NATO officials in Brussels today.

General Dumitru Cioflina is expected to hold talks with NATO officials on Romania's desire to join the western alliance. His visit comes ahead of formal discussions planned for later this week on Romania's future integration into the alliance.

Earlier this month, Romania presented documents to NATO that were designed to form the basis of its discussions on joining the alliance.

Romania was the first country to enroll in NATO's "Partnership for Peace" program.
