Russian Commander And Chechen Military Chief To Meet

Moscow, June 21 (RFE/RL) - The Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe - OSCE - reports that Russian commander, Lt-Gen. Vyacheslav Tikhomirov, and Chechen military chief, Aslan Maskhadov, will hold talks today in the village of Atagi, 45 kms south of Grozny.

RFE/RL correspondent quotes the OSCE as saying the meeting will focus on military issues, including the withdrawal of Russian troops from Chechnya and the disarming of Chechen separatists. Chechen separatists are reported to have shot down a Russian helicopter yesterday, killing one servicemen and injuring seven others at the village of Tsentoroi in the southeast of the republic.

Five Russian soldiers were reported to have been killed in Grozny today, when two armoured personell carriers hit land mines.
