Bishkek, 22 November 1996 (RFE/RL) - The office of Kyrgyzstan's President Askar Akayev tells RFE/RL that Akayev will soon sign a decree on private ownership of land. The decree is reported to read that every citizen can buy, sell or leave land as an inheritance. The effective date is reported as January 1, 1997. Kyrgyzstan's Parliament has debated property ownership on several occasions, without taking action.
New Ambassador To Tajikistan
Kyrgyzstan's Foreign Ministry tells RFE/RL that Bishkek's first ambassador to Tajikistan will be appointed next week. The name given to our correspondent is Eric Asanaliev, Kyrgyzstan's current special envoy to Tajikistan. AsanAliyev has been actively involved in bilateral issues, and has attended talks on the Tajikistan conflict.
