Jerusalem, 6 December 1996 (RFE/RL) - Israel says some 20 Israeli companies will participate in a business conference in Istanbul next week.
The conference will have a number of Turkish firms, and also business representatives from the former U.S.S.R. Israel says the focus of the conference will be methods of increasing cooperation in the fields of food processing, construction, telecommunications and textiles. Among those expected to attend are business representatives from Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Kyrgyzstan and Azerbaijan.
More than 700,000 peaple from the former Soviet Union, many of them Jews, have migrated to Israel since 1989. Israel says many of these immigrants still have commercial ties with their former homeland.
