Armenia: Delegation Visits U.S.

Washington, 13 January 1997 (RFE/RL) - An Armenian delegation led by Prime Minister Armen Sarkissian is scheduled to hold high-level talks in Washington this week.

The delegation, which includes Armenia's finance, economic and trade ministers, is set to meet U.S. Vice President Al Gore in the White House complex today. Officials say the talks will cover a full range of bilateral and international issues.

The Armenian delegation is also scheduled to meet in Washington with World Bank President James Wolfesohn and other top bank officials. Last month, the World Bank approved a loan of nearly $17 million to help Armenia set up an enterprise development project. More than half of the money is aimed at helping domestic banks finance local business projects.

Sarkissian, who is on an extended visit to the United States, last week held meetings with U.S. business leaders and representatives of Armenian-American communities.
