CIS: Leaders Postpone March 15 Summit

Minsk, 13 February 1997 (RFE/RL) - A summit meeting of leaders of the Commonwealth of Independent States set for March 15 has been postponed.

CIS spokesman Eduard Melnikov gave no reason for the postponement. No new date has been set for the meeting of the 12-member bloc of ex-Soviet states.

The summit had previously been set for January 29 in Moscow, but was called off as Russian President Boris Yeltsin, host of the gathering, was recovering from pneumonia.

Yeltsin met CIS executive secretary Ivan Korotchenya late last month in the Kremlin.

The CIS groups all the former Soviet republics except the three Baltic Republics -- Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania.
