Armenia/Azerbaijan: OSCE To Hear Karabakh Report

Munich, 19 March 1997 (RFE/RL) - Members of the international group negotiating the Nagorno-Karabakh dispute today are scheduled to hear a report on a recent visit to the region by France's negotiator Jacques Blot. France, Russia and the United States co-chair the negotiations, which are sponsored by the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE). The three co-chairs have consulted this week in Paris, preparing for a resumption of negotiations next month in Moscow.

Negotiations on a political settlement broke down in November. The OSCE arranged a ceasefire in May 1994, after more than six years of conflict that followed the declaration of sovereignty by Karabakh's ethnic Armenian leaders.

The OSCE co-chairs plan a joint trip to the region in Spring.
