Bulgaria: FBI Meets With Justice Minister

Sofia, 6 June 1997 (RFE/RL) -- A team of five U.S. agents from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) met in Sofia yesterday with Bulgaria's Minister of Justice Vassil Gotzev.

Our correspondent in Sofia reports that an agreement has been reached whereby the FBI will provide experts to train Bulgarian police in their fight organized crime, racketeering and tax avoidance.

FBI agents also reportedly will advise Bulgarian authorities who are drafting new anti-crime laws. The U.S. delegation includes the head of the FBI's anti-drug trafficking department, as well as experts in the fight against counterfeit banknote production.
