Yugoslavia: Document May Link Milosevic To Security Forces

Belgrade, 20 June 2002 (RFE/RL) -- Yugoslavia is preparing to hand over to the UN war crimes tribunal a document believed to show that former President Slobodan Milosevic placed state security forces under his command. Yugoslavia's Justice Minister Savo Markovic told AP Television News that the 1997 document was unsealed today. It shows Milosevic's decision to place the state security forces under his direct control, which could help prosecutors prove that the Yugoslav leader had command responsibility over forces which committed atrocities in Kosovo.

Milosevic's attorney, Zdenko Tomanovic, said the document was a fake and was not relevant to the case in the UN tribunal.
