JANUARY 19-20
Trump spends the night at Blair House, the presidential guest residence across the street from the White House.
JANUARY 20
8:30 a.m.
PRIVATE PRAYER SERVICE
Trump and his family attend a religious service at St. John's Episcopal Church, near Blair House.
9:30 a.m.
VISIT TO WHITE HOUSE
The president-elect and the outgoing president, Barack Obama, gather at the White House, the official U.S. presidential residence. Obama and Trump will then ride together in a vehicle down Pennsylvania Avenue to the U.S. Capitol.
11:30 a.m.
SWEARING-IN CEREMONY
Both Trump and his vice-presidential running mate, Mike Pence, the former governor of Indiana, will be sworn in on a platform on the west front of the U.S. Capitol Building, with U.S. and foreign dignitaries in attendance. But before the swearing-in, there will be brief appearances by invited guests; they will include remarks and prayers from religious leaders (New York Archbishop Timothy Michael Cardinal Dolan and National Hispanic Christian Leadership Conference's Dr. Samuel Rodriguez, and New Destiny Christian Center's pastor Paula White) and remarks by Senator Roy Blunt of Missouri, who chairs the congressional inaugural committee, as well as musical performances. The vice president will be sworn in before the president, by the chief justice of the U.S. Supreme Court, John Roberts Jr.
AROUND 12:00 NOON
PRESIDENTIAL OATH OF OFFICE AND INAUGURAL ADDRESS
U.S. Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts Jr. will administer the presidential oath to Trump on the west front of the U.S. Capitol. Trump will then deliver his inauguration speech to invited guests, U.S. and foreign dignitaries, and the public.
AFTER NOON (EXACT TIME UNCLEAR)
- With Trump sworn in, Barack Obama and his family will issue a farewell and depart from the east front of the Capitol.
- A luncheon for the government leaders and the new president and vice president and friends will be held in the Capitol Rotunda.
- After the luncheon, Trump, as the country's new commander in chief of the armed forces, will review the armed forces from the east front of the Capitol.
3:00 p.m.
INAUGURAL PARADE
The new president and his vice president, along with their families, will lead a parade from the steps of the Capitol down Pennsylvania Avenue to the White House. More than 8,000 parade participants are expected, representing 40 organizations -- including first responders (police, firemen, etc.) and veterans' groups, among others. https://www.58pic2017.org/events/inaugural-parade/
7:00 p.m.
INAUGURAL BALLS
There are two official presidential balls, dubbed "Liberty" and "Freedom," which will be held at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center, about 1 kilometer from the White House. Another official ball, The Salute To Our Armed Services Ball at the National Building Museum, will include members of the U.S. military and honors veterans and first responders. The new president and his vice president, and their families, plan to attend all three balls.

An interfaith prayer service at Washington National Cathedral, with both the new president and vice president expected to be in attendance.
