Belarus Border Guards Fired Upon From Ukrainian Territory

KYIV -- Unknown individuals opened fire on Belarusian border guards from Ukrainian territory on June 22, RFE/RL's Ukrainian Service reports.

A spokesman for the Ukrainian Border Guards Committee, Oleksandr Tishchenko, told journalists the shooters blocked a road along the border with vehicles and opened fire.

Ukrainian police have detained six local residents in connection with the incident.

No other details have been released, and an investigation is under way.
