Iran's Prisoner Without A File

The lawyer of detained Iranian journalist Bahman Ahmadi Amouei, who has been in jail for more than three months, says that there seems to be no file regarding his client's case.

Amouei was arrested in the postelection crackdown in June. He is reportedly being held in Section 209 of Tehran's Evin prison.

His lawyer, Farideh Gheyrat, has expressed concern over his client's situation and says that since there is no file regarding his case with the judiciary, it is not possible to follow up the case.

Gheyrat says she hasn’t been able to find out anything about Amouei's case, including any charges filed against him. She said it’s the first time she’s come across such a situation.

Amouei’s wife, journalist Zhila Bani Yaghoub, also was arrested in the postelection crackdown. She was released on bail about a month ago.

Today, the Committee to Protect Journalists called on Iranian President Mahmud Ahmadinejad, who is in New York for the UN General Assembly, to release all detained journalists.

The CPJ says authorities in Iran have detained at least 70 journalists and media workers since the June 12 presidential vote.
